Prior to the beginning of next season, each player must register directly with USA Hockey. The cost of USA Hockey registration is currently $40 and is in addition to the SMS season fee. USA Hockey registration for next season is not available until later in the summer after the current season concludes.
Planning for next season begins in February/March during the placement process -- SMS is required to make ice rental and league contract decisions as early as June for the following year. As a result, SMS needs to get an accurate count of the number of players committed to our program in order to plan appropriately.
The registration and payment schedule follows:
First Payment, Registration Non-Refundable: $150* non-refundable registration fee is due prior to the first placement session. Please note that placement sessions are expected to commence in late February and into March timeframe -- your child will not be allowed to participate in placement session until this fee, and any outstanding balance from the current season, is paid in full. Every player that participates in placement process will be placed on a team next season.
Second Payment, $600 by June 15 for Squirt-Bantam; $400 by June 15 for Mites: Player placements will occur on or before June 30. The second payment must be received in full in order for your child to be placed on a team. A refund of $200 will be issued if a player requests to withdraw from the program after rosters are announced, provided notification is received in writing to the President or Treasurer prior to July 15th.
Third Payment, Balance due by September 1: The third and final payment is due September 1st. Refund requests will only be issued due to extenuating circumstances and at the discretion of the Board. Any member with an outstanding balance, and/or that has not provided a USA Hockey registration number, prior to the beginning of the season will not be eligible to participate in any practices or games.
Late Fee: A $25 late fee will be assessed for each week that payment is not received after September 1st. For example, a $25 late fee will be assessed if payment is received between Sept 2nd and Sept 8th. A $50 late fee will be assessed if payment is received between Sept 9th and Sept 15th, etc.
* Additional Child Discount: There is a $100 discount for each additional child that participates in the travel hockey program. Note, goalies that pay a discounted goalie fee, as further described below, or Little Devils (mite in-house program) players are not eligible for the additional child discount.
Goalie fee: We offer a discounted goalie rate, plus the USA Hockey Registration Fee, to full time goalies at the Squirt, Peewee and Bantam levels. Please note that the goalie fee only covers primary league play, a separate fee will be assessed for goalies that choose to participate on second league or middle school teams. Families that pay a discounted goalie fee are not eligible for the additional child discount.
Little Devils Learn to Play Hockey program is for ages 4-6 (a Mite In-House program). Season begins November 1. A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due at registration.
